Escondido Renaissance Faire
Ship's Captain Reporting
April 5-6, 12-13, 2008
After aye long 6 months ta sea, ‘twere nice ta put ta shore agaen en
our ol’ familiar spot of Escondido. Quite aye few of us were aye bit
lan’ sick an’ tha first 2 daes did not see aye lot of activities.
‘Owever, Miss Adrienne [posin’ as aye guard wit’ tha Rosenkeep]
an’ her mate, Mr. Robert decided ta try “Adoptin’ aye Pirate”.
Instead of arrestin’ an’ punishin’ [which thay also accomplished]
thay took me about tha market ta try an’ teach me ta “pay fer
things”. This idea were so strange that I decided ta take them on
aye walk en tha woods. Regretfully, thay were watchin’ too carefully
an’ I were not able ta escape nor pilfer their pockets. Since I were
“aye lost cause” thay returned me ta tha Stranglehold encampment.
But along tha way thay made me purchase [wit’ good gold] aye crunchy
cone thig’ wit’ frozen cream an’ some strange lookin’ bread cooked
en hot oil that were called “funnel cake”.
By tha next weekend, tha crew had recovered from their ills an’
despite tha heat those daes, it proved ta be aye lot more fun an’
busy. We had aye couple of maroonin’s ta accomplish, tha Queen’s
visit, greetin’ an’ harassin’ people mullin’ about, en addition ta
tha usual pillagin’, plunderin’, an’ pilferin’.
Tha highlight of tha weekend were when Oderlesseye bribed tha water
canon ball vendor inta givin’ us some of his ammunition an’ usin’
his equipment. We had aye fine battle Oderlesseye, Maraurdin’
Morgan, an’ Meself again’ Captaen Syn, Sydd Kidd, an’ Reekin’ Jake.
When tha first round of volleys were spent, much shoutin’ an’ name
callin’ were heard. As soon as tha next round were ready, tha firin’
began agaen [we even had aye powder monkey team helpin’ us out].
When all tha ammunition were used, aye idear came ta me head – why
waste tha water left en tha bucket when tha Captaen be quite dry an’
tha dae still hot. So I led tha boardin’ party ta drench tha Captaen.
‘Twere aye great deal of fun an’ merriment, but Mr. Blackthorn had
other plans fer Oderlesseye an’ meself. It seems maroonin’, floggin’,
an’ shootin’ were en me future-but I took it like aye man!
When all tha merchants had closed their shops fer this here event,
we all pitched en ta set tha ship fer sail. We were able ta do it en
record time, again. This be aye fine crew indeed.
